Brief: Alternative Map
The brief on this project was to investigate into wayfinding methods and create a map, directing the user to the target location without the use of words
or tradition 'directions'. The brief required us to direct the map bearer to a shop in the centre of Loughborough - my chosen destination was Primark.
I wanted to include consideration of the ethical issues surrounding Primark and mirror the feelings and associations the map bearer may have with the
store.
The final solution is presented in the format of a t-shirt as seen below, designed for the map reader to wear. The t-shirt contains 3 zips, which when
zipped up demonstrate the directions needed to travel to reach the destination. Whilst zipping up and edging closer to Primark, the underlaying image
of sweat shop labour and troubled ethical issues is gradually covered up, visualising the idea of
the shopper/map bearer forgetting or disregarding the
issues surrounding the shop.
