Brief: First Film
The aim of this project was quite simply to produce our first piece of moving image. Our only constriction was that the film must fit to Mozart's
'Allegro Ma Non Tanto'. I was particularly interested in a more traditional approach to film making and at the time was keen to experiment with
stop frame animation. The film was completed by handrawing onto a scroll of paper about ten metres long and photographed at 5mm intervals.
The film composes of nearly 2,000 photographs. The subject matter reflects the lyrics of the song which deal with aspects of music and nature/science.
I thought these two topics would be well represented by the male and female soloists in the piece and the apparent conversation between them.
The film therefore looks at the relationship between music and nature/science and the possibilities that spark when the two are combined.
