Brief: Confessions Typography
This project was a great investigation into experimental typography. Each student was given a confession from another anonymous student.
The confession could be about any subject, fact or fictional. I received the confession 'I burnt down Coventry Cathedral' and was then required to set
the sentence in an appropriate typeface. My solution is based on the idea of guilt and penance. The type is hand stitched onto a prayer mat, representing
the punishment and repentance of the voice in the confession. The project was inspired by a visit to Ely Cathedral in Cambridgeshire and is presented
in context on an old cathedral chair with two religious texts.
